Fed: Neal accuses ALP colleagues of cover up on rorting
The failed preselection candidate for the disputed federal Labor seat of Robertson,
BELINDA NEAL, has accused some of her party colleagues of covering-up rorting.
Ms NEAL has sent a sharp message to Opposition Leader KIM BEAZLEY, saying a fair go
is a fundamental Labor principle.
Mr BEAZLEY and other ALP national executive members are set to consider the fate of
her preselection bid.
The former New South Wales senator failed to win the Central Coast lower house seat
in the 1998 general elections and lost preselection by two votes to candidate TRISH MORAN.
Ms NEAL has alleged the Robertson preselection was unfair because there were malpractices
and major breaches of the rules.
Ms NEAL says there are some people in the Labor Party who believe the best way to deal
with malpractice and rorting is to cover it up.
Mr BEAZLEY has used his influence with the national executive to set up a special meeting
in Sydney on Monday to consider the disputed ballot.
