Fed: War on Iraq did not increase risk from terrorists - Downer

(Updates, clarifies minister's comments).



Foreign Minister ALEXANDER DOWNER says Australia would've been at risk from terrorists
whether it had joined the war on Iraq or not.

He says terrorists will always resent being pursued, but they will go after countries
that try to hide from terrorism.

Mr DOWNER's refused to comment on US presidential hopeful JOHN KERRY's claim that the
invasion of Iraq has increased the risk of terrorist attacks in the United States.

Senator KERRY says the BUSH administration's tactics on the war on terrorism are breeding
more extremism.
