NSW: Winner of final upper house seat still unknown

SYDNEY, April 14 AAP - The final seat in the NSW upper house will not be decided untilat least Wednesday, the State Electoral Office (SEO) said today.

One Nation founder Pauline Hanson is battling it out with John Tingle of the ShootersParty for the last upper house seat, but a computer glitch has prevented the SEO fromdeclaring a winner.

The SEO was planning to run a program last week that would have distributed preferencesfrom more than four million ballot papers in about two hours.

But the computer problem which forced the program to be postponed was still causingproblems today.

An SEO spokesman said staff worked over the weekend to resurrect the program.

He said he could not provide any guarantees, but it was a "safe bet" that a resultwould be available by Wednesday.

At last count, Ms Hanson was trailing Mr Tingle by about 5,000 votes, but could makeup the difference on preferences.
